Labor Day Recollections

Way back when Labor Day in Brooklyn, New York meant the end of Summer and "Back To School".

Endless radio spots of "School bells ring and children sing it's back to Robert Hall again". .

Kids would pick on the cheap clothes some of us wore, by asking you if you bought your clothes at Robert Hall?  Reply:

"Your Father robbed it and your Mother hauled it!"

No more rides on the Cyclone. Coney Island closed just like that!

Jerry Lewis on that endless telethon, with the funny man up all night. Old timers guessing why someone like Jerry would be spending so much effort in helping these poor children.

We would hope for a teacher's strike with Albert Shanker getting mad at the Mayor.  All we cared about was extra days from having to go to classes.

Here's to Brooklyn!!
