The car used for the said test was an Audi 80 but only the frame with two different driver-side doors installed. One side no film while the other side with the Llumar 7-mil safety film. An acceleration sled simulated a 16kph pole impact and the result? Well the window without the Llumar film was shattered and flew hitting the driver’s face and body on the other hand the side with the Llumar film was completely contained.
The introduction of the Llumar safety film is just at the right timing especially since the World Health Organization (WHO) predicts that motor vehicle crashes will be third major cause of injury and death by 2020 and basing on studies conducted side impacts often result in more deaths and injuries to the head, chest, and spine as compared to frontal crashes.
Here’s more according to the study conducted by the Society of Automotive Engineers almost one-third of the fatalities were due to side collisions were passengers are seated on the opposite side of the vehicle from the site of impact.
And aside from protecting passengers from flying glass and debris during accidents, the Llumar safety film also support the side airbag systems by preventing the airbags from being forced outward through the shattered window openings and at the same time prevents passengers from being ejected through the broken windows which leads to death during such accidents.
