Oldest and Biggest Dealers
I see that a recent technicality might have arisen concerning which of these title belt holders is indeed the largest of their dealers.
Being a student of windowfilmology I determined to keep things accurate.
One candidate now states on their website that they "install more --window film than any other___ dealer (we know who already) in North America. I shall assume they intended to include Canada and Mexico (is Latin America counted?) thus truly capturing a somewhat international (tinter-national) flavor. .Ole'
The other Hotlanta candidate, who somehow has ceased writing their self-congratulatory blog entrys since Christmas claims a rather specific 6,000 residential installations, last year alone. This is indeed a formidable mountain to climb, if true. (Someone please do a ballot re-count!)
Perhaps the first candidate sold bigger homes?
Our final contender is the largest installer, or rather "America's Largest Installer" earning patriotic huzzahs from the red, white, and blue amongst us!
I remain at my wits end concern over which of these champs I might focus upon in 2008.
I'd hate to take away their large-ness or subtract from their size or number of homes, etc.
America needs you!!
Chuckling once again at the number of a certain competitive window film dealer channel who are all claiming to be America's largest dealer of their Window Films. Is it possible that there are indeed THREE Largest Dealers??
Perhaps this is like the boxing title belts where they crown a champ for the IBF, WBC and the WBA World Heavyweight Champ!

Advanced Film Solutions is awed and humbled by the largest, biggest, best"est" of the competitors. Remember oh mighty largest ones- -"the bigger they are, the harder they fall."

Life has a way of teaching us lessons as we make our way year after year.
Never really one for the "games" of Corporate management I found myself in the unlikely position of having to act like I was the judge and jury over dealer disputes throughout the country. This was one of the frequent side issues one faced as a National Sales Manager.
Most window film dealers don't particularly like their competition. Now this wont shock anyone, of course. What is less well known is how much dealers who carry the same brand dislike each other!
Since these folks carry the same exact product they need to spend a good deal of time and effort in trying to convince their prospects that somehow one dealer who has the same product is "better" than the other guy!
This leads to some very creative posturing that can lead to some very humorous conclusions.
Oldest dealer:
You have heard the expression "youth will be served". well that's not quite the case with competing dealers. The idea that one dealer has been doing this longer is supposed to add "gravitas" that differentiates that seasoned dealer from the rookie.
Well we had this one guy who was by dealer standards quite an old-timer. Not in how many years he had been toiling in the window film fields, but rather his age. This guy was fast approaching 80 and his ads said he was the oldest dealer in Florida!!
The other dealer cried foul! This lady who competed against him cried that she had been in that county since 1984 and the other guy had just opened a year earlier!!
Not realizing the "old guy" angle I met with him and asked him how he could advertise this "oldest dealer" angle and he explained his age and simply smiled.
The biggest dealer?
There are some dealers who really have selling machines out here in the real world. There was/is a dealer on the west coast that had 23 sales reps knocking on doors. (We don't knock on doors here in Tampa Bay. .yet
)
They bought gazillions of dollars in film (unfortunately not my film!!) but that's another story!
Well manufacturers like 3M like to play the peer pressure game and will let folks know which dealer buys more film from them as compared to the other dealers.
The bigger of course the better! Many of these dealers take this baloney seriously and start bragging in their ads (such as they are) that they are the "biggest dealer" in ........... fill in the blank!
They assume that consumers will think that since this dealer is the biggest-well they must be the best!
That seemed to be fine until one very small dealer started advertising that he was the biggest dealer in Florida!
Cries and gnashing of teeth by the dealer in the area who was far larger in sales so I made the journey to Mr. Small Dealer to have the conversation.
The owner of the small dealership weighed in at around 400 Lbs. .
