What Goes Around Comes Around

So imagine this. . .

I'm standing near the open bar when four of the largest Vista Dealers in the USA step up and circle me.

Smiles on their face and handshakes all around!!

Then they ask me; "How is that 3M thing doing??"



There was a time I might have offered a strong defense about brand recognition, etc. but the irony of having these gents, all of whom I tried to recruit away from Vista, welcoming me into the fold was clearly a case of "what goes around comes around!"

These particular Vista dealers had a far better recollection of what I might have said to them years ago and all were only too happy to describe these conversations in painful detail! They have read this blog and some of them have made it a daily ritual for their internet activity. One of the larger dealers actually told me they send my blog out to their sales reps!

I offer no apologies for my past efforts. I remain proud of one of the finest companies in the world where I spent nearly 33 years.  The ability to win and compete is strengthened with the finest window film in the world, Vista; but our competition has their name and some of the finest dealers in the USA. In a weird way; knowing the 3M dealers in these same cities and having a friendly conversation with their rivals was surreal!

These are tough economic times and we are all trying to find that competitive edge.

Woody Allen once said that "90% of life is being there."

"Being there" means competing and explaining why your solution is a better fit or value to your customer!

"Being there" is understanding the differentiation between solutions and how this uniqueness defines the win versus the loss.

So many lessons to learn!

I recall one sales training session I participated in about 25 years ago. The theme was "sharpening the saw."

The concept was that each sales person has an obligation to get better at solving problems and consulting with their clients.  This takes on additional meaning in a highly competitive world.  The folks at CP Films and Vista have given the Vista Dealers the broadest and deepest product offering in the industry and the most all inclusive warranties and test credentials.

It remains our responsibility to take this advantage and fight that fight in the field, one consumer and one building at a time.

In Tampa and Orlando that fight is what Advanced Film Solutions is all about!

Thanks to my fellow Vista Dealers for their encouragement and their willingness to let the bygones be bygones!
