As a window cleaner by profession, I would recommend researching window tint for its quality and ability to withstand scratching. A good homeowner should really have their windows in their home maintained professionally at least twice a year. When I encounter cheap tint I see years and years of nasty scratches, however the quality tint really holds up well. I do not endorse any brands, but check for quality.

Also, be sure to research how the window film holds up in the event of a break in. Some window films can make it hard to break the glass of a particular window. The upside to this is a lower chance of a break-in but the downside is of course if you have a fire the window is no longer able to be used as an escape route.
