Fear

The reality for any small business right now isn't painting a rosy picture.

That's an understatement to be certain.

We see it every day as retail stores, Mom and Pop shops across the area close their doors. We see it when we pass empty restaurants and once vibrant shopping centers that are looking for all intents and purposes like Ghost Towns.

Behind the mortgage crises and the housing bubble we began mentioning way back in 2007 the recent credit crisis has simply evolved into a psychology of FEAR.

Irrational, unfettered FEAR.

FEAR about the present and the future.
FEAR about change.
FEAR about spending and investment.

Let me "share" something with you.

FEAR??

GET OVER IT!

FEAR is a trickster that saps your strength.
FEAR is a liar.
FEAR wants the worst for you.

Hell. .

With this economy; the way it is, there is huge opportunity.  Get off your butts and do something!

I sometimes imagine what life would have been like had I somehow stayed at 3M.

I imagine the pressure from above about crappy sales numbers.  Heck I sat through enough meetings after 9/11 when the powers that be demanded greater sales despite the enormous grief of that tragedy.

I can imagine their current fear of losing their jobs or their perceived influence or "power".

No. Given choice, I'd choose independence.
I'd choose self reliance, creativity and enthusiasm.

If today were my last (& who truly knows?) I'd feel that way.

Turn it off!
