Hurricane Season 2009 Latest Predictions

NOAA has
issued their latest tropical storm hurricane predictions for 2009.

An average season might mean 4-7 hurricanes in 2009.

Florida residents know that we have been extremely lucky since Hurricane Wilma hit the state in October, 2005.  I can recall that exact week because I was at 3M back in those days and we were supposed to have had a meeting with our former distributor, Accent Distributing (hope all of my old friends are doing fine) but that meeting was postponed because of the storm.

Window Film dealers always keep an eye on these hurricane predictions.  Obviously consumers already enjoy the benefits of our solar control window films that reduce electric costs by blocking heat through your windows.  many people don't realize that there are thicker (8 ML) versions of these solar films that are designed to hold the glass in place rather than shattering with flying glass everywhere.

Sliders and larger windows can be anchored using a variety of attachment systems most frequently the DOW 995 silicone along the perimeter of the frame.

This is the very same configuration used to protect people at government buildings from an explosion.

There has been some recent controversy between shutter dealers and some window film dealers concerning the effectiveness of window films versus their shutters and the wording the window film people use to promote their products.

Obviously caution and a conservative approach is always the best policy.

Here's my opinion for what it's worth!

Now we all hope that there are no hurricanes hitting Florida in 2009.

We all would like to be able to afford shutters that can meet the 9 Lb 2 X 4 ASTM Test.

The plain truth is hardly anyone can afford these shutters and their cost to install these devices.

Instead consumers take their chances or use duct tape that does nothing to protect them.  Those that can carry and lift plywood are the fortunate few.

For the rest of us?

Think window film and the intrinsic value in energy savings and window film rebates and tax credits.  Than consider these same films in an 8 times thicker formulation.
