Innovative Non-Reflective Solar Security Window Films
It amazes me how many of the larger window film manufacturer's (CP Films, Solar Gard/Armorcoat and Madico) have been (so far) reluctant to develop a hybrid solar security non reflective window film.
They have all figured out how to make an optically clear 8 Ml thick film and combine that with a sputtered metallic coating and a dual reflective layer. These films have met independent test criteria for specific window types (ASTM 1886).
My former company 3M certainly understands how to make a thicker film like the window film market leaders. Their issue has more to do with the perceived differentiation of their micro-layering feature. In other words their thinner film has an associated higher manufacturing cost; yet this feature does not help them meet the impact testing criteria met by thicker films like Vista, Armorcoat, LLumar, Madico and SunTek.
Rather they choose to promote a difference (rippy rippy test) that offers no distinct advantage or improved safety to the consumer. Simply the perception of strength.
To me that's like having the best darn FM radio receiver while the rest of the world moved on to digital or satellite transmissions.
There are many consumers and commercial property managers who are looking for safety and security without a reflective exterior look to the glass.
This has created a vacuum that has been filled by the remarkable Geoshield Lumenesse 70 and through an entirely different manufacturing process, the SunTek ULV 40 solar security film.
We have been a huge advocate for these Lumenesse films since they were launched in late 2008.
These films are able to meet the 4.5 lb missile test that our key competitor 3M and their prestige film could not meet.
