Window Film Trends 2009-2010

Marketing people have always entertained me. 

Now I'll admit that like everything else business related my views are skewed by 33 years at 3M. 

What I've discovered in the real world, post 3M is that brand loyalty can only take you so far.

What starts as pride in a logo or a brand name can result in a failure to understand the customer's requirements. Listening to what your client's needs are by asking questions is the starting point for solving their concerns.

Just what are the current trends?

  • Upgrading the energy efficiency of their windows: many homeowners are looking to improve their windows.  They may be confused by low e glass and dual pane- IG units. 
  • Privacy: A huge concern particularly on windows that face another home's open windows.
  • Safety and Security- Home break-ins.
  • Fade- Folks are holding onto their furnishings much longer since no one has $$ to buy new furniture or accessories.
  • Reduced interest in using their credit cards.  Yes- we keep hearing about how home depot 3M customers like to use their depot credit cards. Really?? I'd say go ahead pay twice as much for half the value and sooner or later that bill will come due!
Consumers want value and a strong iron clad warranty! 


They want to deal with reputable people who have insurance and have references.
