Truth Or Dare Window Film USA- Selecting The Right Solar Energy Film For Your Home
If there is one theme we have discovered since leaving 3M it is the steady stream of misinformation that is frequently offered as fact in the window film business.
Really- - I hadn't noticed this when I was the 3M corporate guy.
Which is probably because commercial clients have a much more familiar and ongoing experience between the alternative window film solutions. No one could survive in a competitive commercial marketplace spewing false claims or worse.

Government agencies in particular are far more fluent in window film choices and performance than any causal homeowner looking for information on window film choices.
Here's an example: The Feds have specific bomb blast mitigation performance that they require for shatter films. The GSA and Department of Defense provide the performance levels that need to be obtained and the film manufacturer's have an independent laboratory conduct testing using specific window configurations and blast size. the aftermath of the blast (how much glass enters the protected area is the determining factor of success!) There is no amount of BS or hype that can alter the end result.
Competition keeps all of us razor sharp. It can also lead some down a road of misleading dis-information.

How do you protect yourself from falling into that trap? After all you don't have the GSA standing behind you to separate fact from fiction!
Window Films aren't all the same. There are nuances and variations in reflectivity inside and outside.

- Check the NFRC for specific film ratings on various glass configurations. If a competitor claims they block 97% of the heat with a particular film; check the real numbers on this site and compare. Think about what type of company would try to get you to invest in a product that has to be hyped with bogus characteristics!

- My competitors film does not work better at lower angles or higher Sun angles than any other window film. That is pure horse crap since- -all window films and glass factor out more heat at an angle than at a direct 90 degree position.
Winning should be based upon the ability to better match the client's requirements! - Beware of gimmicks like heat lamp demo's or BTU readings. They are hood-winking you by pretending their film actually blocks the heat from the Sun. What they are showing you is as real as a Chris Angel trick. The lamp is hot but it's blasting the heat at a very narrow wavelength which just so happens to fit the film's performance strength. It's not even close to a real world demonstration when we discuss the entire solar spectrum.
Angle Testing Is A SCAM. - Testing like impact and cycling ASTM 1886 is critically important for indicating how a film will perform under exact same conditions. If a company tells you that isn't important- -ask them why they tried to pass this test and only pass on one very limited film? If they have to invent bogus performance advantages ask for DOCUMENTED RESULTS,
- Windex is fine for our window films and theirs.
