The Incredible Lightness Of Window Tinting In 2010

Window Film is a distinctly unique solution for reducing solar heat, Ultraviolet Rays and blocking glare. (Thicker versions also provide superior protection against flying glass from accidents, vandalism or wind storm debris)

Here is the IWFA Website describing film benefits in general.

By preventing heat from entering your home or business your living space temperature stays at a stable and your cooling bills are dramatically reduced.

Many consumers are no doubt familiar with window tinting as a "do it yourself" project where the handiest among us set out to block heat or glare by buying GILA Film from their local Home Depot or Lowes.  These films are highly reflective and dark.

Getting the creases and bubbles to evaporate while keeping your sanity- -well that's an entirely different issue!

There have been dramatic improvements in technology that allows more light into your home or business with less heat than you would expect.

They do so by factoring out a higher percentage of the invisible IR wavelength.  Nano-ceramic films like Huper Optik, VISTA Terre, and Geoshield Lumenesse are well known examples.

Unfortunately consumers need to be vigilant because their is confusion about how IR rejection works.

Advanced Film Solutions and Window Film USA compete against numerous 3M prestige dealers and Home Depot agents who claim prestige blocks 97% of the "Sun's IR" (or more misinformed; the Sun's heat?!)

Just do a Google Search

The reality is that their film blocks IR that % in an extremely narrow bandwidth (read the small print on their own brochure!)

IR Lamps that give the illusion of solar heat are in reality filtering IR heat at this same misleading extremely narrow wavelength.

The BTU meters that are being used for this demo; meter this narrow wavelength giving consumers the FALSE impression that the film is blocking nearly all the Sun's heat!

Nonsense of course!

This is why the the window film industry endorses the objective certified performance characteristics of the NFRC.

You won't find bogus measurements claiming films working better at angles, or false statements implying plastic films that allow 70% of the light into a room can somehow block more solar heat gain than a mirrored metallic film that blocks 90% of the light!
