Window Film Bid Magic How We Deal In 2010
Once again we find ourselves bidding against our 3M competition.
In this 4 Buildings project the specification is currently for a Silver 20 security film and their VHB Tape attachment system.
We attended the pre-bid meeting and specifically inquired why the 3M spec was selected?
They explained that they simply selected a spec at random and assumed the 3M specification would be a good model. They will allow substitutions of equal performance.
That's where the fun begins; dear readers.
You see the film being specified for wind storm debris and cycling has not met the objective debris and cycling tests (ASTM1886 C- 4.5 LB Missile)
A host of competitive films have actually met this level of protection and coincidentally Advanced Film Solutions and Window Film USA offer every single one of these brands that passed that test!

Solamatrix Glassgard
From a solar performance aspect most of these films have been certified by the NFRC and they all match that 3M specification.
So. . .incredibly. .
The least qualified film for this application is unfortunately the film that was specified??
Obviously we have sent the documentation to allow us to compete against this film. Interestingly, again, EVERY SINGLE FILM THAT I MENTIONED ABOVE OUT PERFORMS THE S20 IN WIND STORM OBJECTIVE TESTING!
You simply have to admire the brand power of 3M!
