Above Average Hurricane Season Forecast For The Atlantic- Where Window Film Fits In?

Hurricane Season 2010 Projections:

Window Film people have become gun shy when discussing the merits of thicker safety and security window film as a hurricane mitigation solution.  This is the result of hand wringing by the shutter industry combined with the insurance industry and to be candid the improper claims made for window film as a protective system.

The plain truth is that an expensive shutter system that can withstand a 9 LB (2 X 4 ASTM 1886 A) is your safest system. You might also consider high impact glass (if your budget allows!)

The window films we represent at Advanced Film Solutions have met the ASTM 1886 B (4.5 Lb 2 X 4 Impact Test and cycling) These window films were attached to the frames using Dow 995 structural Silicone sealant.

The following films have met that level of performance:
The 3M 6 ML clear (no solar reduction/glare or heat rejection properties) has also met that test while every other Ultra film has not.

We will further note that the Hanita 10 ML and Huper Optik 8 ML have not (as of this posting) received a pass on this ASTM 1886 test.

There is a significant protection improvement that augments the solar heat rejection of our thinner films.  The cost benefit is encouraging for any budget and the window film works 24/7 against storms, crime while lowering your electric bill.

Our position is clear. Floridians need a film to improve the energy efficiency of their single pane glass. These Films are NFRC Certified for tested anticipated performance.

The modest up-charge for an 8 ML solar security film is well worth considering!

Certainly we would recommend that we attach the film to your sliders and window openings larger than 6 X 4'.  We always use the 8 ML films and we always use Dow 995!
