It seems like the Sun hasn't been out for at least a week and in the window tinting business that ain't a good thing,

You see when the Sun is hiding and the rain begins folks forget that the Sun might pop out again. It has for 4 billion years and after the rain puddles evaporate my guess is that Sun will shine!!

IN THE MEANTIME:

I'm starting to plan for 2010.

I'll go with the assumption that it will stop raining by then. . .right?

What can we do as a company to improve our sales or profitability?
How do we maintain our competitive edge?
Are there marketing opportunities that we should be considering or regional influences that might propel our sales?
Has there been any true recent innovative solutions introduced that might fill a niche that has been overlooked?

You know it will stop raining!

It's been a really tough time for old guys lately.

There was a time; and not that long ago, that the main problem we were supposed to have was that "Going Problem!"

Add to that E.D and that couple curiously holding hands while soaking in matching bathtubs along some tropical beach. (By the way; where the hell is that beach and why the hell are they in separate tubs?)

Now lately it's the demon HEART ATTACK/CARDIAC ARREST that has us old guys on the run.

Folks I talk to a hell of a lot of window film people all across the USA. These folks aren't a happy bunch to say the least.

Doom and gloom everywhere!

Ads that used to work are no longer doing the trick and they can hardly afford to do any marketing in 2009.

The manufacturers for the most part remind me of absentee landlords. They feign concern but are all clearly more interested in their own jobs and don't have a clue what to do to bolster their sales or their job security beyond playing games with inventory or running discounts.

What a sorry lot!

There are ways to drive your sales and take market share away from the dunderheads that pretend they know what's going on.

This is your moment to strike!

Here are my top ten rules for window film success in the Summer of '09

Stop feeling sorry for yourself. Big babies!
Stop looking for help from corporate know nothings who pretend that they know your business or their business. That's the blind leading the bland. AND please stop kissing their ignorant asses it's just embarrassing.
Stop spending money on things that aren't working! You know what they are, don't you!
Stop spending your money on unproductive overhead! If it ain't selling it's smelling.
Find successful people and drink in their optimism. Dudes- -I am living proof that bad shit can't keep a person down if you don't let it.
Copy successful people. Don't be shy or proud! If you find someone doing things that work, copy them. Shamelessly copy what these people do!!
ABC- Always Be Closing. It's true... ask for the damn business!
Don't do things by accident. Plan your success. Plan to get better if that's what you need to do!
Hire positive people. Stay away from dark cloud bone heads that drag your spirit down.
Find balance- Smell the flowers! (while I seriously kick your asses ) This isn't a hobby or a game. This is the real deal with winners and losers.

We found this interesting blog by the "Weather Guys."

This was one of those weeks where every time you read a newspaper or turned on the TV the talking heads would be blathering about Michael Jackson or Farrah Fawcett.

They were "iconic" so we are told; and for my generation (baby boomer!) that is ultimately quite true. Nevertheless how we feel about their passing is really more about us, than them.

For me it's another reminder of mortality and my recent heart attack. If anyone knows what to look out for about cardiac arrest it's yours truly. Still I gave myself all the self pity I could muster and decided that this bullshit really wasn't working for me.

I decided instead to revel in my life right now.

The last three weeks were the busiest and most successful days in my life.

We easily completed more than 70 homes and business installations.

My installers sometimes look at me like I made a pact with the Devil since they keep hearing how badly the window film world is doing from their peers. Then they look for their pay!

There's a sweet release that covers me when I meet with prospective clients.

Those who need time to "think about it." I smile and always tell them to take their time. No hassle.

Sometimes I explain that just being able to be there at that moment is good enough for me!

Oddly enough I really mean it!

No days are promised to any of us.

No amount of wealth saved our "icons."

It's always our choice how we live our lives and how we enjoy our precious time.
