Daylighting is the practice of placing windows or other transparent media and reflective surfaces so that, during the day, natural light provides effective interior illumination.
Daylight, technically a byproduct of sunlight and its attendant invisible-spectrum IR radiation dispersing in the atmosphere, is a nearly perfect light.
It is free, and we see very well under it.
In moderation it has positive health benefits associated with vitamins, enhanced performance, and elevated mood, producing 16 percent or better test score increases and general feelings of well-being in schools (as one example).
It does have a few issues, however:
It is associated with heat, specifically the heat produced by the continuous nuclear reaction comprising the sun. It is on all the time, but because the planet rotates you can’t see it all the time.
Also, the ultraviolet radiation in sunlight causes toxins from the materials in your house to out gas at an alarming rate, and generally degrades them, so the sun ruins your carpet (one of the worst airborne pollutant sources) and you get indoor air quality problems.
Glare is also a critical downside of allowing in copious amounts of daylighting. Plasma TV screens, computers and comfort are all issue our clients are facing.
Our solutions?
Low or non-reflective Nano-ceramic window films allow in more natural light than standard dark reflective films while they simultaneously reject nearly 100% of the UV as well as rejecting more IR heat.
Light transmission films in the 30%-50% light transmissions with total solar heat rejection of 60%.
- Glare is reduced by 30-70%
- UV eliminated
- Temperatures are reduced.
- Windows are protected 24/7 with 8 ML thick shatter films.
- Electric costs are reduced
.
- Since these films are non reflective they meet all Deed Restrictions!
- Homeowners use less interior lighting further lowering electric costs!
- IR is reduced- so it feels even cooler which provides greater comfort.
